Join our Magical Musical Theory Adventure
What do Saraswati the Indian goddess and Joseph Boulogne known as Chevalier de Saint-Georges have in common? Watch Mr Z and see if you can find out more. At FunKeys, we love to learn about all different types of music. So we listen, we read, we play and we write and practise every day. There is always something new to learn. As musicians our learning never ends. One of our amazing parents, Hetal, told us about a song that they sing to their children in the evening. This little cutie, who is one of our lovely students then gifted us by singing it and sending us a video. It was beautiful and gave us inspiration to find out more.
So we traced it back to this amazing Indian goddess SARASWATI. She is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music and the arts. We went back in history to discover ancient symbols in music. The birth of music theory in Sanskrit perhaps! We also discovered that amazing African composers like Joseph Boulogne, known as Chevalier de Saint-Georges, were a major influence in music in 18th century Europe and was a champion fencer, virtuoso violinist, and conductor of the leading symphony orchestra in Paris.
So as well as learning formal music and getting outstanding results in our ABRSM exams, it is great to pay homage to those musicians and teachers who have gone before us. There is a world of music out there just waiting to be uncovered and explored. Let's shine a light on this amazing history and celebrate their music. We hope you enjoy the journey with us.
Namaste for now.
